My parents usually attended church, and I was sent to Sunday-school and church, and always had to observe theS abbath, as there was no manner of work practised there on theS abbath except chores about the farms that were necessary to be done. Most of the people in that section of the country belonged to some church and usually attended it onS unday. I was next to the oldest of our family, and my brother next to the youngest. We bought a small farm when I was about ten years old, and I and my sisters used to work and help father all we could, as we used to raise garden truck for market. I used to work on the farm summers and go to school winters. As soon as I was old enough, I used to work out for some close neighbor, sometimes by the day and sometimes by the month, but my parents always got the benefit of my work until I was past twenty years old. When working away from home, I always looked forward to Sunday, as I would have a chance to go home and spend theS abbath with my folks, and they always looked for us on that day if we were away from home.
